Silver lining

Is there a positive side to the recession? In my case there just might be. As you may remember from last year my boss has an embarrassing habit of re-gifting items to other departments. But since we are in a recession most companies aren’t sending out client gifts this year. Which for me means not having to deliver baskets red-faced to other departments “claiming” that they are from us because we are sooo grateful for their service to us throughout the year. I dread that little tradition so much, so thank you recission!

Welcome to this Century

Over the weekend I bought an iphone! I needed a new cell phone because the one I had, held a charge for approximately 30 minutes. Besides the fact that it randomly turned itself off when calls came in, when I was on a call or in the middle of sending a text, basically it was fading fast and I am not exaggerating. I couldn’t decide if I should get a Blackberry or an iphone and went back and forth for at least a month (probably more) while my current cell phone continued to die a slow painful death.

Ever the indecisive one, I went to a store and looked at the iphone, discussed it with people, went back to a store, and talked with more people, Twittered about it and then finally pulled the trigger. When I did I was really excited, until I went 24 hours and it still hadn’t been activated and my other phone was turned off and I had no way to communicate with society other than my laptop or my home phone (the horrors). I called and complained and was sent back to the store where they replaced the Sim card and I made my very first call excitedly to my parents who weren’t home. Two hours later it wasn’t working or taking incoming calls again. Needless to say I was pretty pissed off and wondering if I’d made the right decision switching providers and getting a new phone. But I called and they reactivated it and deleted all my activation fees and I haven’t had any trouble in a whole 24 hours (knock on wood)!

I’m excited that I can now read my Facebook and AOL messages at work and that while I’m away over Christmas I can Twitter and email to my hearts content (ingoring my mother's constant chatter). While it was a pain to get activated I’m feeling like quite the cool, techy now! If anyone has any suggestions on applications they can’t live without please share.

Just call me flash

So yesterday I pulled a dress out of my closet that I haven’t worn in awhile because I thought it showed off some of my shall we say, “less desirable” areas. But it fit fine and looked cute so I left for work feeling quite cheery and boosted with self-confidence only a cute dress or new shoes can do.

When I got to work I greeted everyone cheerfully and headed to the break room for a cup of coffee. The break room was unusually crowded so I chatted briefly with a few people and headed back to my desk. After a half hour or so I went back for my much needed coffee. The only person in the room was a weirdo guy that everyone says has a crush on me. I stood with my back to him while I made my coffee feeling his eyes on me. After he left another guy came in (95% of the employees here are guys) and after a couple of minutes he looked at me red faced and stammered, “Uh, Uhm, I’m not sure if you know this or not, but…uh, you seem to have a big rip in the back of your dress.”

“What? Really?” I asked while turning around in circles trying to see it and feel for it. Sure enough, there it was a huge rip, in a most undesirable area. I’d just spent the last hour walking around flashing the entire trading floor! AHHHHHHHHhhhhhhhh!!
